In 2000 a New York based company known as LimeWire LLC launched technology that allowed media sharing across the internet. LimeWire LLC was already a company dedicated to making it easier to exchange free software and have users be able to receive, change, and redistribute program codes. Mark Gorton who is also the founder and CEO of LimeWire LLC, was the mind behind this innovative file sharing community. In August of 2000 this was available to download, by October 2001 it became free and available to all with internet access under the Free Software Foundation General Public License.
