When looking at the price of a rebuilt engine for my 1969 Volkswagen Squareback, the best price I found for complete engine was $2630. Including the tools I would need it would bring my total to $3000. If I keep my monthly income and expenditures the same I will be able to put aside $250 a month for my engine fund (assuming the same engine is available and the price stays the same). It would take me 12 months to save up the funds needed to purchase the rebuilt engine.
