Rose Totino
January 27, 2008
I am very excited to have chosen Rose Totino as female inventor. Rose Totino is one of seven children born to Italian immigrants. Her name may sound familiar thanks to Totino’s pizza ~ she invented frozen pizza crust. I can’t wait to learn more about her life and background.
Rose Totino turned a small restaurant, called Totino’s Italian Kitchen in northeast Minneapolis into a million dollar business. Rose used her flexibility, thoughtfulness, and creativity to bring people frozen pizza crust I think it important because it brings about a convenience that I know and understand as a mother who doesnot walk in the door until 6 at night when her daughter is already demanding her dinner. Rose Totino was also Pillsbury’s first ever female vice preident. It will be interesting to hear Totino’s story of not only her invention but also about her way up the corporate ladder.

My dream of getting my Volkswagen back on the road is important to me for a few different reasons. I currently drive an Isuzu Trooper that has an exhaust leak, needless to say I get horrible gas mileage. With the price of gas going up it would be a huge money saver for me to drive a smaller more economic vehicle. My VW fits that description. It is also a fun car to drive, a classic. It is finally at that stage where it is going to be worth something, not like cars of today that simply depreciate in value.
The trick to saving money when working on a Volkswagen is to do as much of the work yourself. Many VW enthusiasts become experts at mechanics once they’ve owned a VW for awhile. There are many resources available to help you get started. The best book that I have found when it comes to working on these cars is, “How to Keep your Volkswagen Alive – A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Complete Idiot”, by John Muir. This book contains hand drawn pictures and easy to read directions for repairing your VW.
Some barriers I face are time and money. There are many ways to save money along the way but time is just as valuable. I will have to carve out time for this project. As far as support there are many people and tools for support and success. The internet offers many support systems. There are blogs and websites designed specifically for VW enthusiasts who are in the middle of getting there VW working or restored. Forums exist that work as a question and answer format. I believe these resources to be very valuable and something I could use to reduce barriers. Some of those resources are: thomasmiller.tripod.com/Volkswagenrestoration.html and www.vwsites.com. Both of these websites contain many valuable links.

I am very interested in finding out how technology has made social advancements for women particularly when looking at our culture compared to other less indivisualistic cultures.
